HYPORT Duqm Project Lead
Anwar Al Battashi is the Deputy Project Director of Hyport Duqm, a flagship green hydrogen project developed through a joint venture between OQ Alternative Energy, bp, and DEME Concessions. In parallel, he serves as a Low Carbon Molecule Advisor within OQ Alternative Energy, contributing to the company’s energy transition and decarbonization strategy.
Anwar has been involved in the Hyport Duqm project since its inception in December 2020, initially assuming the role of Project Lead prior to bp’s entry into the venture. His leadership has spanned the full project development lifecycle, supporting the advancement of the project through critical strategic and development milestones.
Through his work on multiple mega‑projects, Anwar has developed strong project management, commercial, and technical capabilities, with hands‑on experience across all stages of project development, including feasibility, pre‑FEED, FEED, execution, and operational readiness.
Prior to joining OQ Alternative Energy, Anwar served as Project Program Manager at Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company (now OQ8) from 2018, reporting directly to the CEO. He also held the role of Secretary to the Board of Directors, supporting executive governance and strategic decision‑making.
Earlier in his career, Anwar was the Director of Industrial and Urban Planning at the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (SEZAD) from 2013 to 2018, where he played a key role in shaping industrial development and long‑term urban planning strategies.
Anwar brings 18 years of professional experience across Oman and Canada. He previously worked as a consultant in Canada from 2007 to 2011, gaining international and multidisciplinary experience.
He holds a Master’s degree in Urban Planning, specializing in Urban Sustainable Development and Environment, from the University of Montreal, and a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.
